Tips for Renting a Motorbike in Bali
10 essential tips every traveler should know before renting a scooter or motorbike in Bali. Save money, stay safe, and avoid common mistakes.
Choose the right bike for your needs
For short city trips in Kuta or Seminyak, a small scooter like Honda Beat or Scoopy (70–80K/day) is enough. For longer rides to Ubud or mountain roads, consider a PCX 160 or NMAX (175K/day) for better comfort and power. For serious touring, the XMAX offers maximum comfort on Bali's mixed roads.
Always inspect before you ride
Check tire pressure, brake responsiveness, lights, and fuel level before accepting the motorbike. Take photos of any existing scratches or damage. This simple step protects you from unfair damage claims when returning the bike.
Beware of too-cheap offers
If a deal seems too good to be true (e.g. Rp30.000/day), it probably is. Extremely cheap rentals often come with poorly maintained bikes, no helmets, hidden fees, or even scam deposits. Stick with reputable providers with real reviews.
Get delivery to your hotel
Many rental providers in Bali offer free delivery to hotels and villas in popular areas. This saves you the cost and hassle of finding the shop. We deliver free to Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, and Ubud.
Wear a helmet — always
It's the law in Indonesia. Police actively check in tourist areas, and fines start at Rp250.000. More importantly, Bali's roads can be unpredictable — a helmet could save your life. We include 2 free helmets with every rental.
Book weekly or monthly for better rates
Daily rates are convenient but expensive over time. Weekly packages typically save 15–20%, and monthly rentals save 30–35%. If you're staying more than 5 days, always ask for a weekly or monthly quote.
Drive on the left side
Indonesia follows left-hand traffic. If you're from a right-hand traffic country, stay extra alert in the first few hours. Roundabouts go clockwise, and always check your left blind spot before turning.
Avoid night riding if possible
Bali's roads can have poor lighting, potholes, and unexpected obstacles (dogs, ceremonies, parked trucks). If you must ride at night, use a bike with good headlights and reduce your speed significantly.
Keep emergency contacts ready
Save your rental provider's WhatsApp number. If the bike breaks down or you have an issue, a quick message can get you roadside assistance. Our WhatsApp is monitored 08:00–21:00 daily.
Fuel up at official Pertamina stations
Small roadside fuel sellers (often in vodka bottles) charge premium prices for lower-quality fuel. Pertamina stations offer Pertalite (Rp10.000/liter) or Pertamax for better engine performance. A full tank on a scooter costs only Rp15–25.000.
